Yes it makes sense to create a cross-platform experience. Not too much debate there. In defense of app developers and marketers it's not an issue of flawed intent or knowledge in all cases, it's an issue of economics. Unlike a cross-browser Web experience, apps have to be built specifically and distinctly for each device/OS. Essentially, it has to be built, tested, and submitted three times to account for iPhone, Blackberry, and Android, for instance. And those can be largely redundant costs that can quickly exceed a lot of brands' budget thresholds. In a lot of cases, right or wrong, iPhone apps are viewed as the first or only option. All credit to Apple for strategy and execution to create this reality.

Why are apps not geared towards the interchangeable, or at least converging sync, any app that is not spread across the three major platforms are beyond me, thats like making a website that can only be viewed with all the bells and whistles in Safari, it should be able to at least be viewed correctly in Chrome, IE, Fire Fox, and Opera the same, why can't app developers realize, not everyone wants and iphone, some love android's interface so they go with G1 or Nexus, how about the fact that most business owners and professionals use Blackberry
